Today is one of those days when you know fall is here (or quickly approaching). It's not too hot, not too cold, just perfect and comfortable...just a simple day. Days like this cause my mind to flood with memories of my past.
In high school, these days meant football and fun. Going to Melissa's after school to get ready for the game and eat grits.:) Cheering at football games every Friday night for 4 yrs. Playing hide and seek at the school (praying we didn't get caught by the police-haha!). Going toilet papering and driving through corn fields with 8 people piled in Delbert's tempo or Jenny's omni. Harvest Homecoming, haunted houses and chicken n' dumplings.
When I went away to college, the days of high school were long gone, but days like this were replaced with many more memories: wearing a hooded sweatshirt, jeans and tennis shoes to class EVERY day (except Badge Day...okay, even on some Badge Days, too-ha!). Homecoming parties, formals, fraternity events and mixers. Gathering people for dinner at Winslow, flag football games, Hester dorm, and Initiation Weeks. Walking to class in the wind and rain (seriously...is Murray, KY the wettest city in the US or what!?-ha!) Going home for the weekend and making a trip to Brown County.
And, most recently days like this remind me of planning our wedding, working at Med Assist (where Kelly and I produced more good times than we did work:), moving into our first house as a married couple, being EXTREMELY pregnant with Abby and eating way too much Halloween candy (I bought 3 bags of candy and anxiously awaited the trick-or-treaters...and we got 2-haha!). Dressing up Abby as a lion for her first Halloween, taking her trick-or-treating for the first time last year, and her excitement over pumpkins that lasts all year long (she shares my love of fall and Halloween:)
I guess what I am getting at here, is that I can only hope that we provide a life for our girls that is filled with just as much love, fun and wonderful people, so that in 25 yrs. they can be the ones looking back, laughing and saying, 'days like this remind me so much of.......'
Thank goodness life is made up of so many 'one simple days!' :)
